Todd Marcum, President of Access Advertising & Public Relations and a 1983 graduate of Marshall University, was recognized with the 2013 Marshall University Alumni Distinction Award for the W. Page Pitt School of Journalism and Mass Communications. Marcum was honored at the Marshall University Alumni Association’s 76th annual Alumni Awards Banquet on Sat., Apr. 27 at the Memorial Student Center’s Don Morris Room on Marshall University’s Huntington campus. Marcum was one of 20 alumni honored at the banquet.
In 2010, Marcum was inducted into the John Marshall Society for his dedication to Marshall University. The Society provides recognition to individuals, corporations, and foundations who make a significant gift to the growth and development of Marshall University.
“Todd and Access have assisted the Marshall University Foundation for the past five years in producing and designing the annual reports with fabulous results,” said Kristi Arrowood, director of Foundation Development and Strategic Programs at Marshall. “The Foundation has won two CASE awards for the 2006-2007 and 2009-10 annual reports and many of the annual reports have won ADDY awards in West Virginia and Virginia.”
“Todd was our choice for nomination not only because we are proud of his many accomplishments, but because he always remembers the school,” adds Janet Dooley, interim dean for the W. Page Pitt School of Journalism and Mass Communications at Marshall. “He’s willing to help faculty with classes, and he’s there to assist students entering the job market. He’s very deserving.”
Marcum remains active in the Marshall alumni community in Southwest Virginia and is a former board member of the Big Green Scholarship fund. He also was instrumental in establishing a scholarship fund to honor long-time Marshall University official and supporter Sam Stanley in 2012.
In addition to his work for Marshall University and Access clients, Marcum advises many local nonprofit groups in advertising and marketing. He is a founding member and officer of the Southwest Virginia Business Development Association and has served on the board of the Roanoke Valley YMCA.
