Access announces prestigious new award.

June 9th, 2010

Communications people are hopelessly insecure.

You will never find a decent ad or PR person who isn’t looking for affirmation that his or her work is of value and importance. That’s why there are about a million advertising awards shows.

Since our people do great things and entry fees for award shows get expensive, we decided to institute the Access Employee of the Month award.

Taken at the Burger King in Narrows, VA. Employees of the Month of that Burger King have been known to go on to accomplish such things as not getting fired the following month and achieving negative drug screenings.

This important decision followed moments of deliberation after we found a really cool gnome we wanted to buy at Busch Gardens and decided we needed to have a reason to justify the purchase. The shiny red gnome would become a symbol of excellence and a token of esteem for the member of the Access team chosen as Employee of the Month. And, hey, the savings in entry fees to award shows alone would pay for it in no time.

We immediately had a Gname the Gnome contest and he was dubbed “Sparky.” Gnorman finished a close second.

Many gnomes toil in the garden. Sparky is also sometimes exposed to large quantities of BS.

Don’t get us wrong. Employee of the Month is serious business. Anyone who takes a workman-like approach to their profession makes contributions on a daily basis. Sometimes the achievements are great…sometimes less so… but are part of an organization’s incremental march to success.

Gnome on the range.

We are pleased to announce that Sparky has taken up residence on Karenna Glover’s desk. Karenna was chosen as our inaugural Employee of the Month for many reasons….among them, she implemented the wildly popular “Last Call” at Access, which is a Friday afternoon communications session with a beer chaser. She helped secure a really nice placement for Magnets USA in The Roanoke Times. And she had a discount card that saved us 10% on the purchase of Sparky. Heady stuff indeed! Congrats, KG. Keep an eye out for future blogs to see whose cube Sparky will pimp next!
